Frequently Asked Questions
How long will my system last?
The average lifetime of a system is 10-12 years. Some may last less than the average, others longer than the average. Several factors influence the lifetime of a central heating and air conditioning system including proper sizing for the home, proper installation, proper ductwork design, and regular semi-annual maintenance.
Tip: Regular semi-annual maintenance is designed to improve system efficiency and to identify parts that are near the end of their lifetime. Finding these parts early can help minimize breakdowns at inopportune times - ie in the middle of a scorching summer.
Replacing a major component like the condensing unit, evaporator coil, or furnace near the end of the average lifetime might not make sense given the likelihood that another major component could fail. You might consider investing in a newer, higher efficiency unit rather than repairing your current unit.
